Happy Haiku

Here is another activity from The Happy Book:

The beauty of haiku comes from being economical with your words (a recession friendly poem!)-you're forced to describe things as simply as possible (first line: five syllables, second line: seven syllables, third line: five syllables), and in the process, you find new ways of thinking and describing. Write a series of haikus about your favorite things.

Here are a few of my haikus:

It takes just one click
To capture simple beauty
And share it with all.

You read the first word
Immediately taken
To a world beyond

One half teaspoon here
Now a whole cup is added
Everything changes

Dipping under trees
While following the river
Tripping over logs

New notes meet your ears
A melody ripples through
Words that spin your head

More from the Happy Book....

Dog at the Whitefish Farmers' Market in Whitefish, Montana

So, I've been a bit lazy lately with the blog, so here is another activity from The Happy Book:

Come up with a goal, big or small, and celebrate when you hit it. Write about it.

Here's my goal for the Spring/Summer:

I'm going to be a vendor at the Downtown Manhattan Farmers' Market, and I am making it a goal to sell 1o photographs by the end of the summer.

Now you...

The Happy Book

So, awhile back I bought this book....

It has fun little prompts, ideas and activities to get you thinking about what makes you happy (so you could say it was partly the inspiration for this blog). So every once in awhile I'll post things from it, and I hope you, dear reader, will take a second out of your day to use the post to think about what makes you happy.

Here is your first one....

Make a list of things that make you happy-anything and everything that makes you happy-small, big, profound, simple.

Here's my list:

-Fall leaves
-A bath with the perfect temperature
-Finding a great new band
-Sitting in a dark movie theater
-Starting a good book
-A 75 degree day
-Seeing my dad coach
-Laughing really hard with friends
-Finding Ace Pear Cider
-Traveling
-Driving through small towns
-Photography
-Gardens
-The Ocean
-Dusk
-Live music
-1960/70's home decor
-Hearing my mom laugh
-Finding great DIY ideas
-Online shopping
-Listening to records
-Handmade gifts
-A good hair day
-A stranger's smile
-Fresh flowers
-Smell of rain
-Being goofy with my sister
-Making new friends
-Hearing my brother get excited
-Finding the perfect pair of jeans

Now it's your turn....
